Chr. regierte, die Unabhängigkeit seines Landes von Israel wieder herstellte und das Gebiet nördlich des Arnon zurückeroberte.
Mescha wird in der Bibel und auf zwei moabitischen Inschriften genannt. Nach dem 2. Buch der Könige, Kapitel 3, war Mescha zunächst dem Reich Israel und dessen König Ahab tributpflichtig, erhob sich aber nach dessen Tod. Ein Rachefeldzug des israelitischen Königs Joram scheiterte trotz judäischer und edomitischer Unterstützung.
